
As the story goes, at the 350th founding anniversary of Harvard University, the principal
was asked what, in his opinion, was best worth boasting for a school. The principal answered
that they cared nothing about how many presidents came out from their school, or how many
Nobel Prize gainers they produced, but they cared the most about whether Harvard provides
enough space and conditions for the free development of their students and whether they enabled
every student to gain access to success. This answer highly epitomizes the school-running
concepts and characteristics of this world famous university. The reputation of the all-time
great school is not self-given. During the long term of its development, after having first
activated their thinking, liberated their thoughts, the school inherited, passed on and led
the social heritage, and, with the accumulation of the school culture, it gradually formed
its own traditions and characteristics. A famous school is famous for its development in the cultural traditions, for its continuously advancing and pioneering, for the active thinking, creative attitude and unlimited potential capacities of its administrators, teachers and students.
Today¡¯s TEHS, I think, heading for the goals of running the school¡ªto be of high quality,
to have its own distinguishing characteristics, to be open-minded, to be modernized, to be
top-ranking at home and well-known abroad, should commit itself to rediscovering and building
the essence of education and the connotation of the school.
The ideal school in my heart must has a good soul-leading principal who loves reading, has
high aspiration and non-stop pursuits, for the school¡¯s running ideas are the principal¡¯s
idea and at the meantime, the principal¡¯s personality is the school¡¯s personality.
The ideal school in my heart must be a harmonious blend of advanced concepts from both Chinese
and foreign educational tradition and experience carry on the past heritage and open up the
future, has its own roots in the school founding as well as its own creations
while building itself. With the historical cultural accumulation of more than 80 years, our
school shall has a style that is liberal yet not inflated, discreet yet not ponderous, modestyet not lack of creations, and a magnificent school feature that much more values steadiness, true qualities and study accomplishment rather than flashiness, extravagance, or conceit.
The ideal school in my heart dares to break through the low-pressured clouds above the sky of education, to cast off the shackles of the examination-oriented education and to widen the views. It strives to be the best model school that supplies quality-oriented education for students¡¯ all-round development. With the concept that a school must try to be human-oriented and creative so as to lay the foundations for the students¡¯ lifelong development, our school shall provide conditions for the development of different students with potentials and help establish a solid basis for the lifelong development of every student, who are enabled to obtain abilities to go on studying, cognitions to design their life layout, working skills to make themselves independent, courage and perseverance to help face the new life in the future..
The ideal school in my heart is, prior to all above, a school that is like a cradle of tomorrow¡¯s educationalists, a school that benefits the growth and development of teachers. A teacher¡¯s responsibilities embody less and less transference of knowledge, but more and more encouragement and considerations; besides his regular duties, he is much more becoming an adviser, a participant in the exchange of ideas, a person who helps the students discover contradictions and arguments instead of supplying the students the ready truths. The school can make every teacher conscious of initiative research, through developing the school curriculum, self-introspection, mutually helping among colleagues and leading by specialists.
To sum up, the ideal school is quality-oriented education patterns based and focused on solidarity,
harmoniousness of both inner and outer, and balanced development. It provides an overall optimized thus harmonious educational atmosphere with all the educational elements linked mainly to
the school campuses. The constituents of each subsystem of the schooling are well assorted
and cooperating with each other. It can combine educations of the school, the community, families
into a well-organized educational force. Its tenet is to produce a domino effect among the
development of students, the development of teachers and the development of the school. My
dear colleagues and I will all make arduous efforts to build our school brilliantly and gloriously into such an ideal one. |
