The General Information of The School

Tianjin Experimental High School was established in 1923. With its history of 81 years, it has changed its name seven times previously: the High School Attached to the Industrial and Commercial College, the High School Attached to Jingu College, the High School Attached to the Normal College, the Boy High School Attached to the Normal College, the Number Sixty High School, Pingshan Dao High School, and eventually, from 1981 on, Tianjin Experimental High School. From that time on, the school has been one of the five city's key high schools, which are directly under the Educational Committee of Tianjin

Since the very beginning, the school always inherits its teaching style that is to be “Course-devoting, Student-loving, Rigorous, and Explorative” and its learning atmosphere that is “Diligent, Inquiring, Wide-learning, and Steadfast at work”. It has brought up a lot of qualified and productive people for the society, such as the well-known nuclear physicist Yuan Jia-Liu, the specialist on “Dream of the Red Chamber” Zhou Ru-Chang, the musician Shen Xiang, the famous singer Lou Qian-Gui, the academician of the Engineering University and famous medical scientist Shi Xue-Ming, the world tennis champion Liu Shu-Hua and so on. Therefore, the school is often referred as “A Famous and Glory School in Tianjin”.

The school's educational concept is “to lay a solid foundation for the life-long development for the students”. Based on that concept, the staff try their best to adhere. In 1998, supported by the government and the Educational Committee of Tianjin, they pioneered to build the school as a Demonstrative School. Today, the school covers an area of 7 hectares, with constructing area of about 80,000 square meters. There is a first-ranked teaching-aiding net work, a multimedia CCTV teaching system,and an electronic administrative working system.

It has a digital library and a library with more than 150,000 books, multifunctional demonstration rooms, different kinds of special classrooms with advanced facilities, various laboratories and a Psychological Health Service Center. Even the regular classrooms are modernized and humanized with over-head projectors and multi-media systems. The Art and Sport Gymnasium is roomy and the Outdoor Sports Field has rubber track and artificial turf.

In order to practice the schooling concept, TEHS keeps improving its teaching staff. At present, there are 12 Top-rank teachers, distributed among 6 subjects. Eighty-seven teachers have got or will soon get Master's Degrees. Twelve teachers are the subject leaders in the city. Five teachers belong to the City's Top-Ten Youth Teachers while 3 teachers have been awarded the City's Top-Ten Advisers. It has 2 National Excellent Teachers and an coaching group for Mathematics Olympic Game led by the famous Math Top-Tank, Wang Lian-Xiao, in which 2 Highest Level coaches, 6 First Levels and 4 Second Levels are admitted the Committee of the Mathematics Olympic Game of China. The actual strength and ability of math teachers in the school are at a leading place in the city.

In order to practice the schooling concept, TEHS keeps exploring the quality-oriented education model. The specialized classes in math, in English, and in Arts, the bilingual classes in cooperation with New Zealand, the experimental classes of IB programs have come out one by one. Various students art and sport groups are among the top-level groups in Tianjin. Its students are chosen to take part in the winter camp of the Mathematics Olympic Game in China, are enrolled by top universities in China, are granted various kinds of awards and prizes, and many of its special qualified students are enrolled by best universities.

In order to put into practice the schooling concept, TEHS keeps advancing towards being a first-rate international school. In 1996, the school was the first, among thousands of schools in Tianjin, to set up an international department which focuses on introducing the school to the outside world. The school has kept good relationships with 29 schools from 26 countries and regions around the world. Dozens of teachers and hundreds of students travel abroad each year. It has held three International Forums successively. It has also established a branch school in Thailand to conduct Chinese teaching for Non-Chinese. On the whole, the school set up a platform for its students and teaching staff to face the world and to participate in international competition and development.
